It's a simple story with repetitive text that your child will love trying to "read" it themselves. Story TimeThis week we continue with our Pond Theme and will be reading "Jump Frog Jump," a cute book about a frog who uses jumping to escape from getting caught. There are lots of great positional words in the story: over, under, in, on, etc. This book also uses sequence and repetition... after your reader has heard the story a few times, see if they can tell you what happened first, next, and last! Songs and MovementHere are some pond songs about frogs and other animals. Your kiddos will probably recognize "Five Little Speckled Frogs!" There are several versions below. It's a fun song for counting, so hold up those fingers and practice counting down from 5 to 1. Or, pretend to be a goldfish and "swim" around your house! Story Time As we begin our new theme this week about Ponds we will read the story A Frog In A Bog. This is a fun book about a hungry frog. He eats all kinds of critters in the bog until he can't eat any more. Lots of rhythm and rhyming along with counting. Science As we focus on the theme of ponds and with our activities this week, there are some fun science lessons you can do with your children. Talk to your child about the lifecycle of a frog. The stages that start with an egg until it grows into an adult frog. Below is a video that helps explain along with some activities. You may also want to explore what a bog is with your child. Just google it on your device. You could even let them make some mud and play in it! Our kiddos love our sensory table in our classroom. I bet there would have been some mud making this week! Have fun exploring science at home... Art and Snack Now it's time to have fun and be creative. There are lots of fun art ideas that use simple items around your house. Please do not feel like you have to go out and purchase anything. Let's stay safe and healthy! Look at the ideas below and see if you can create something with what you find at home. Lessons from this story you can explore are the lifecycle of the butterfly, healthy foods and food groups, colors and counting and more! Wow, all that in one book! This week's social story from Teach Town is about personal space. How appropriate is this lesson right now. Although we are unable to access our Teach Town videos, below you will see a great link to a social story you can read with your child. Practice and model this with your child. In class we often talk about asking before hugging, using our words to get someone's attention and asking for a turn - not taking from our friends.
